The boyo got caught in a massive security line to get out of customs and the hubs frantically waited with no word for over an hour after his flight had landed at Charles de Gaul. You are not allowed to use a phone in customs. Nail biting to not know where your kid is. The hubs cried once he put eyes on the boy! The next morning we headed to the train station. In the Gare du Nord train station was a vendor selling gluten free waffles ON A STICK with melted chocolate poured into each pocket. We hopped a train for Lausanne to eat at the "Bleu Lizard", which did not disappoint! This is our third time eating dinner there, and we truly enjoy it. Thank you Rick Steves for the recommendation six years ago. Highly recommend to anyone traveling near France or Switzerland. Also, there's a jazz bar downstairs that we have not yet sampled. We left dinner and hopped our train to Montreaux, 20 minutes away.
The next morning we took a drizzly walk along the lake shore and fell in love with Montreaux, Switzerland a little bit more. Boyo didn't want to see the Castle de Chillon, but we could see it in the distance across the lake from us. He just wasn't yet over his jetlag. The flowers were stunning. We then hit the grocery store for the gifts of the Swiss, chocolate and cheese for our upcoming train journey to Bologna, Italy.
Montreaux is the site of a spectacular recording by Queen and David Bowie called "Under Pressure". Rumor is that during a cocaine and booze filled epic recording session, they rolled through two days with no sleep and Bowie edited the result to give us one of the very best songs of that decade. You can youtube the individual vocals from Freddy and David. When Freddy Mercury passed away, Montreaux put up a large, bronze statue of Freddy on Lake Geneva, fist up, and playing full out. We always loved the little Creperie there, but sadly, it is now gone. So we "settled" for a wonderful lunch at a nearby brasserie, which had crepes.
