We got here from Venice, only about a 2 hour train ride and it was cheap to upgrade, so we rode in first class wonderment. They FEED you! They give you water and coffee! It was like an old time flight on something not Frontier! We got here, and remembering the last time, we ordered tickets for Thursday AM for hubs to take the boyo to go see Michelangelo's David. Part of his homework is to compare/contrast Rodin to Michelangelo. And there's a gorgeous park here as well with more of his sculptures.
And then Wednesday he asked hubs for help on homework. And every 10 minutes hubs would dutifully check in, how's it going, where are you in the assignment, etc. And every 10 minutes, as it turns out, the boyo lied to his dad about his ongoing completion of assignments. And had been lying for the entire week. *sigh* Our plan only works if online school works. So there are consequences for all of us. Boyo may not pass freshman year. Boyo may blow all chances at college with failing grades. Boyo may have to go back to real school. Hubs will need to be in Denver to see boyo every other month. Consequences.
At the crack of 10AM, we wake him and tell him we know. And have a very calm conversation about what's next. And boyo commits to getting online school complete, because no chance in hell in May to get caught up in real school. So we will work on that in a new way, with him in our presence, with no access to the youtube and netflix sites.
We miss the allotted time for David. Then, in tweaking the phone/apps/computer access/online stuff to whitelist only those sites needed for school, the phone stops working. Damn you Apple. But there's an Apple store in Florence. Good job Apple! The buses in Florence are apparently "suggested times". They, meaning hubs and boyo, miss (never showed up) four buses before finally grabbing a cab to return home, all possibility of sculpture garden gone with the light of day.
We were here for three days, and the small Piazza near the house has been lovely. Mostly, I did internet research and worked from the spacious and adorable two bedroom apartment. It's a lovely, high ceiling home with Terrazzo tile floors reminiscent of my childhood in Cocoa, FL. It also has the most brilliant drying rack/cabinet directly over the sink with a drain hole. If I ever own a home of any kind again, this is what I'll put in the kitchen.
So, Florence, we shall be back some other time to see your wonderment, but we have a train to Rome on Friday that we will not miss.
